Who can remember their first failed business?
When we were kids we lived on a remote sheep station. Out the back of the farm we had rough country where there roamed wild pigs, deer and horses.
In the winter Dad used to shoot wild horses to feed the dogs (keep in mind this was 50 years ago!). Next to the dog kennels was a plantation of pine trees and this is where all the old bones and horse heads got thrown when the dogs were finished with them.
When I lost my first baby tooth my mother put it in a glass of water beside my bed ready for the Tooth Fairy – how very exciting. During the night the tooth fairy came to visit and take my valuable tooth away for some lucky new baby to have. The going rate in those days was a shilling. Yes, that’s right – a whole Shilling. I had my first business idea.
Well for 3 days after that first tooth fairy payout, my mother would see me for meals, and I'd be off out the door, far too busy to stop. You see, I was making a fortune. I figured that if a little kids tooth was worth a shilling, it was only logical that a horse tooth must be worth at least half a crown. I learned one very important thing that week. I learned that the tooth fairy doesn’t pay for horse teeth – apparently it's in the fine print. I also learn't in the years that came, that insurance companies can be like the tooth fairy and lots of people out there have horse teeth in their glass.
My message to you - be sure you ask the right questions & get the right advice before you rely on that payout.
